Srinagar, Oct 14, KDC: The Returning Officer for the Jammu and Kashmir Rajya Sabha elections has rejected the nomination papers of two independent candidates, Prabhakar Dada and Kante Sayanna, during the scrutiny process held on Tuesday.
With their disqualification, a total of seven candidates, four from the National Conference (NC) and three from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), remain in the fray for the upcoming elections to the Upper House of Parliament.
Officials told news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) the nomination papers of Dada and Sayanna were found invalid after scrutiny in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act.
The final list of contesting candidates will be announced after the last date for withdrawal of nominations, officials added.
The polling is expected to witness a tight contest between the two parties, with voting to take place in the J&K Legislative Assembly. (KDC)
