Srinagar, July 22 (KDC): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday detained hundreds of suspects, including suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and launched extensive raids across south Kashmir’s Shopian district as part of heightened security measures following the deadly terrorist attack in Anantnag that claimed the life of a police head constable.
An official told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the district-wide security and counter-terrorism operation was launched to prevent any attempt to disturb peace and maintain a robust security environment. Hundreds of suspects were taken into preventive custody for sustained questioning and verification, while multiple raids and search operations were conducted at various locations based on credible intelligence inputs.
The official said that security has been significantly strengthened across the district, with additional personnel deployed at vulnerable locations. Checking points and nakas have also been reinforced to ensure strict surveillance of vehicular movement and prevent unlawful activities.
Area domination patrols, intensified checking and enhanced surveillance are being carried out in close coordination with other security agencies to maintain a high level of vigilance in the district, the statement added. (KDC)
