Jammu, Apr 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed noisy scenes on Saturday after a sharp exchange between Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed Para disrupted proceedings.
The confrontation arose during a discussion on governance and the prevailing political situation, with Itoo launching a direct attack on the PDP. She blamed the party for the current political uncertainty in the Union Territory, including the absence of statehood and an elected government with full powers.
“Whatever the situation today—no power, no statehood—it is because of PDP,” the minister said, drawing strong objections from the opposition benches.
Itoo also held the PDP responsible for developments following the abrogation of Article 370, alleging that the party’s past decisions contributed to the administrative challenges faced in the region.
As opposition members protested, Waheed Para countered the remarks, leading to a heated verbal duel that escalated into sloganeering and interruptions.
Taking a swipe at the opposition’s protest tactics, Itoo said her government believes in “action, not drama,” further intensifying the exchange.
The Speaker had to intervene to restore order as members continued to trade barbs, briefly stalling the proceedings before normal business resumed.
