Bandipora, Apr 4: A night-long rescue operation was launched on the snowbound Bandipora–Gurez road in north Kashmir, where 38 stranded vehicles were evacuated after being caught in heavy snowfall, officials said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) after fresh snowfall led to the accumulation of snow near Razdan Pass, leaving multiple vehicles stranded along the route.
Officials said all passengers were safely evacuated and shifted to secure locations, while efforts are ongoing to restore connectivity by clearing the affected stretch of the road.
The 85-kilometre Bandipora–Gurez road has remained closed as a precaution following continuous snowfall in the region over the past few days. Authorities had earlier issued an advisory restricting movement to avoid any untoward incidents.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted further rain and snowfall across the region over the next 24 hours, raising the possibility of continued disruption along the route.
