Srinagar, Feb 20, KDC: A Zero FIR has been registered at the Women Cell, Udhampur against an Inspector, presently posted in Udhampur, following allegations of rape, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and financial exploitation made by a 42-year-old non local woman.

According to FIR copy in possession of news agency Kashmir Dot Com, the complaint was received on February 12, 2026 at 2:30 pm via the official email ID of Police Station Women Cell, Udhampur along with a 3 MB PDF attachment titled “DocScanner 12Feb 2026 2-26 pm.pdf.”

In her written complaint addressed to the Women Cell, Udhampur, the complainant name (withheld) stated that she came into contact with the accused police inspector (Jonesh Verma) through Facebook on June 21, 2023, after accepting a friend request from him. She alleged that during their initial interactions, he informed her that he was SHO of Police Station in Srinagar and shared his mobile number.

She claimed that shortly thereafter, the officer travelled to Mumbai on June 23, 2023, where she arranged conveyance for him for photo shoots related to gym products. She stated that they also visited Siddhi Vinayak Temple along with family friends.

According to the complaint, the accused requested her assistance in securing his transfer from Srinagar to Jammu and in pursuing a gallantry medal award. She alleged that he shared official file numbers relating to gallantry medal recommendations.

The complainant stated that she has professional connections as a fashion designer and helped the accused establish contacts with producers, directors and choreographers.

The complainant alleged that in July 2023, she travelled to Srinagar at his request and stayed at Hotel Palm Spring in Jawahar Nagar. She stated that during this visit, the accused visited her hotel room and, on the pretext of marriage, established physical relations with her. She alleged that he asked her to wait for marriage until he secured a gallantry medal and transfer.

She further claimed that she visited ministries and other authorities to assist him in his professional matters, including the gallantry medal file.

The complaint narrates subsequent meetings in Srinagar and other locations including stays at various hotels, during which she alleged continued physical relations based on assurances of marriage.

The complainant alleged that in January 2024, the accused informed her that he intended to purchase a Fortuner vehicle and required ₹3 lakh. She stated that she transferred ₹80,000 in three instalments (₹25,000, ₹25,000 and ₹30,000) following instructions received via phone messages.

She further alleged that on February 14, 2024, she handed over ₹1 lakh in cash toward the same purpose. The complaint claims that overall financial assistance extended by her amounted to several lakhs of rupees.

The complainant alleged that she continued assisting the officer in transfer matters, including postings in Baramulla, SOG Srinagar, Jammu and later Udhampur. She claimed she made efforts to facilitate his accommodation and professional positioning.

She further alleged that in September 2024 she learned that his marriage had been fixed with another woman name (withheld). According to the complaint, the accused denied the proposed marriage but subsequently blocked her communication in November 2024.

The complainant also stated that she later contacted his former wife, who allegedly informed her about prior marital disputes.

The complaint specifically alleges that during a July 2023 visit to Hotel Palm Spring, she was confined in a room, threatened with harm to herself and her family, and subjected to sexual assault. She alleged that the accused misused his official position.

Based on the contents of the complaint, offences under Sections 376(2)(c), 506 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code have been invoked.

As the alleged place of occurrence falls under Police Station Rajbagh in Srinagar district, the Women Cell, Udhampur registered a Zero FIR on February 12, 2026 and transferred the case to the concerned police station for further investigation. (KDC)
