Budgam, Jan 3, KDC: Acting on prohibitory orders issued by the District Administration on 29 December 2025, Budgam Police have launched a district-wide enforcement and verification drive against the use of unauthorized Virtual Private Network (VPN) services to prevent potential misuse of encrypted digital platforms.
A police spokesperson said, during systematic monitoring and technical scrutiny carried out between 29 December 2025 and 2 January 2026, a total of 24 individuals were identified for violating the district magistrate’s orders banning unauthorized VPN usage.
Following detailed investigation and device-level technical analysis, 2 FIRs were registered against individuals found to have adverse terror-related backgrounds, officials confirmed.
Additionally, security proceedings were initiated against 11 individuals, mostly youth aged between 18 and 40 years, for non-compliance with the prohibitory orders. The individuals were bound down under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and were later released after counselling and strict warning, as no further adverse links were established in these preventive cases.
A senior police official said that the enforcement action was carried out strictly in compliance with lawful directives, focusing on public order, cyber security, and preventive policing, rather than punitive prosecution in cases without terror association.
Budgam Police have appealed to the public to adhere to all lawful orders issued by the district administration and cautioned against the use of unauthorized VPN services that may hinder legal monitoring and create vulnerabilities for misuse.
The district police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, enforcing cyber regulations, and ensuring responsible digital conduct across Budgam. (KDC)
