Srinagar, Oct 18: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested a Section Officer (Legal) of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Finance Corporation (JKLFC) in Jammu for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 80,000 and accepting Rs 20,000 as the first instalment.
According to the CBI, a complaint was filed stating that the officer had sought the bribe to process the settlement of an MSME loan of Rs 51 lakh. Following negotiations between the complainant and the officer, the initial instalment was fixed at Rs 20,000.
The CBI set a trap on Friday and apprehended the officer while he received the Rs 20,000 payment via an online UPI transaction linked to a mobile number provided by him. The remaining amount was reportedly to be paid after a favourable decision on the loan settlement.
The agency said that further investigation is ongoing.
