Srinagar, Sept 18, KDC: Hours after Education Minister Sakina Itoo asked National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi to focus on raising people’s issues in Parliament instead of criticising the NC-led government, the parliamentarian’s office issued a sharp response, defending his record and taking a swipe at “obedient voices.”
In a detailed post on social media platform X, Ruhullah’s office said, “This Office understands that those who have bent their back in obedience can’t look up to see the work of those fighting oppression.” It added that if some leaders could not follow Parliament proceedings or read official communications, his office would “gladly courier a compilation of speeches, interventions and updates” to their desks.
The post went on to highlight Mehdi’s interventions and initiatives, including raising the weakening of Kashmir’s apple and horticulture sector in Parliament, meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand release of detainees, flagging illegal detentions and Waqf encroachments, and taking up railway, road, and health sector issues.
It further mentioned that Mehdi had disbursed more than five crore rupees through the MPLADS fund, secured CT scan facilities for district hospitals, pushed for the extension of the expressway up to Sonmarg via Srinagar after meeting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and facilitated PMNRF assistance for hundreds of patients suffering from cancer and life-threatening diseases.
“All of this is available for public viewing on Lok Sabha TV and through RTI,” the post underlined, adding that while others may have earned comfort through “obedience to the oppressor,” it was left to Kashmiris “to take up the harder task of challenging that very power.”
The sharp rebuttal comes a day after Sakina Itoo told reporters in Srinagar that Aga Ruhullah should fulfil his duties as a parliamentarian instead of criticising the government led by his own party. (KDC)
