Srinagar, Sept 15, KDC: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday assured that concrete measures will be taken in the next 24 hours to ease the problems faced by fruit growers, who have been hit hard by disruptions on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44).
Taking to microblogging platform X, Omar said he had spoken to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari regarding the prolonged closure of the vital highway link.
“Just spoke to Union Minister @MORTHIndia @nitin_gadkari Sb regarding the situation along NH-44 & the lack of connectivity with the rest of the country along this vital link. The frustration of fruit growers is understandable. They have been very patient for the first few days but watching their hard work rot because @nhidcl is unable to stabilise the highway, their patience has worn thin & that is totally understandable,” Omar wrote.
The Chief Minister further added that some “concrete steps will be taken within the next 24 hours” to resolve the matter but refrained from divulging details until the measures are officially rolled out.
The frequent disruptions on NH-44, particularly during the fruit harvesting season, have been a longstanding concern for growers in Kashmir who rely heavily on the highway to transport their produce to outside markets. (KDC)
