New Delhi, June 18, KDC: In the wake of escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel, the Government of India has launched Operation Sindhu to ensure the safe evacuation of Indian nationals stranded in Iran.
According to an official press release from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), multiple measures have been undertaken over the past several days to secure the lives of Indians living in conflict-hit regions of Iran.
As part of the first phase of this mission, 110 Indian students were evacuated from northern Iran on June 17, and successfully transported by road to Armenia under close coordination between Indian Missions in Iran and Armenia. These students were then flown out of Yerevan on a special flight at 1455 hrs (IST) on June 18 and are expected to land in New Delhi in the early hours of June 19, marking the initial leg of Operation Sindhu, reported news agency Kashmir Dot Com.
“The Government of India is grateful to the Governments of Iran and Armenia for the smooth facilitation of the evacuation process,” the official release said.
India has reiterated that the safety and security of its nationals abroad is of the highest priority. The Indian Embassy in Tehran is actively working to relocate citizens from areas witnessing intensified conflict to safer locations and is organizing further evacuation efforts using feasible routes and transport options.
Indian nationals currently in Iran are advised to remain in touch with the Embassy of India in Tehran and the 24×7 Control Room set up by the MEA in New Delhi. Multiple emergency helplines have been made available for assistance, including contact numbers and email support for different regions such as Tehran, Bandar Abbas, and Zahedan.
