Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, has also reached the encounter spot to take a firsthand account of the operation. Earlier, following a tip about the presence of militants, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Thung Mohalla of Khanyar.
As the security forces proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired on the party, leading to an encounter. Unconfirmed reports suggest that a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Usman, is believed to be trapped in the encounter.
Moreover, security forces killed two foreign militants in the Shangoos forests of Anantnag district this afternoon in a brief shootout. (KDC)
