Srinagar: In the aftermath of the tragic Botapathri terrorist attack, an offshoot of the terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) known as the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF) (banned) allegedly released a video on social media claiming responsibility for the attack. The video allegedly shows a terrorist firing a rocket at an army vehicle from a forested area.
However, officials have confirmed to news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the video lacks authenticity. They noted that the footage does not represent the recent attack and should not be considered credible evidence linking the PAFF to the Botapathri incident.
Concerns were raised regarding the use of a rocket in the attack, but it was confirmed that the rocket missed the army vehicle and fell a distance away, preventing further casualties. While the attack resulted in the tragic loss of lives. Thus, the nature of the weapon used has been clarified to avoid unnecessary alarm.
Security agencies reiterated that the claims made by PAFF through the video are not substantiated and appear to be a desperate attempt to gain attention.
The group involved in the attack is believed to have infiltrated earlier this year, with security forces intensifying efforts to locate the perpetrators.
The use of drones, helicopters, and increased checkpoints has been implemented to track down the attackers in the Gulmarg and Tangmarg areas.
The security situation remains under close monitoring, and the Gondola cable car service in Gulmarg was temporarily suspended as a precaution after the attack. It has since resumed operations following a security assessment.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Muhammad Zaid Saturday said that around four militants were involved in the Thursday’s ambush on army vehicle in Botapather area of Gulmarg. SSP Baramulla said that the Police, Army and Paramilitary forces are jointly conducting the operation at the spot.
From Baba Reshi to the forests of Gulmarg, entire area is being searched, he said, adding that precautions have been placed in built-up areas as well.
Baramulla police in a statement said “It has come to the notice that some media outlets are circulating unverified news of post Butapathri terror incident. Media friends are requested not to circulate unverified reports on media platforms.” (KDC)
