Srinagar, June 22: The Health and Educational institutions across Kashmir division on Thursday took “No Tobacco Pledge.” The pledge was taken in more than ten thousand schools and hundreds of health institutions across valleys.
This was done under Tobacco Free Youth Campaign by Tabaco Control Cell of Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, in collaboration with School Education Department on the Directions of Bupinder Kumar, Administrative Secretary Health and Medical Education Department J&K.
Dr Mir Mushtaq, Nodal Officer (Kashmir Division), National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) said the program was very successful and all the health and educational institutions took part in the first such activity in Kashmir division on such a large magnitude.
Scores of educational and health institutions took part in the pledge ceremony. The pledge ceremony was conducted under tobacco free youth campaign which was launched by Bhupinder Kumar (Administrative Secretary Health and Medical Department) on World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2023 in Srinagar.
During the pledge ceremony, awareness programmes were also held in which bad effects of tobacco were enumerated.
Pertinently the health department Kashmir has launched an aggressive anti-tobacco campaign across the valley on the eve of World No Tobacco Day.
Bhupender Kumar had launched Tobacco Free Village campaign and Tobacco Free Youth Campaign on May 31 on World No Tobacco Day in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather has thanked Director School Education, Mr Tassaduq Hussain for his cooperation and support during the campaign. Director Health Services further said that the campaign will continue in the coming months and more such initiatives will be undertaken
