In Bankote area of Bandipora NIA searched the residence of Zahoor Ahmad Malik son of Abdul Gani Malik (Chairman International Public School Braripora Bonakote). During the search 02 laptops and 05 mobile phones were seized by the team of NIA.

Residence of Ghulam Mohammad Wani son of Abdul Ahad, a resident of Arin was also searched. During raid, as per sources some receipts of JeI (old receipts) were seized by the NIA team.

As per reports Wani was not present at his home during the raid. However his son identified as Ishfaq Ahmad was detained by the NIA team and after questioning at Police Post Sumlar was later released.

Officials told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that raids are being conducted to check resurgence of Jamaat-e-Islami activities in Jammu and Kashmir despite the ban on organization by the Ministry of home Affairs (MHA).

They said the case was registered by the probing agency NIA on 5 February 2021 in pursuance to order from Ministry of Home Affairs relating to “separatist and secessionist activities of JeI, an unlawful association under the UA (P) Act, even after its proscription on 28.02.2019.”

The Centre had banned the Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 for five years under anti-terror law on grounds that it was “in close touch” with militant outfits and is expected to “escalate secessionist movement” in the state. (KDC)
