Srinagar, Nov 08, KDC: Residents of Bagat Kanipora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, seeking immediate administrative intervention to address the frequent traffic congestion on the vital Kanipora–Nowgam road.
In a formal representation submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the residents highlighted that prolonged traffic jams, particularly during morning and evening peak hours, have become a routine ordeal on the stretch. The route serves as a major connecting link for thousands of daily commuters, including those travelling from adjoining areas and south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The residents stated that the daily congestion is causing severe inconvenience to the general public, heavily impacting students, government and private-sector employees, and healthcare professionals reporting to various hospitals. They noted that apart from wasting valuable time, the continuous gridlocks cause mental stress and can pose a serious threat to patients during medical emergencies.
“While we understand that a permanent solution may require proper traffic planning, road management, and coordination among the concerned departments, we request your immediate intervention to provide some relief,” the residents’ representation read.
To streamline the traffic flow, the locals have urged the district administration to direct the Traffic Department to deploy personnel along the vulnerable Kanipora Chowk–Nowgam Bypass stretch. The residents noted that active regulation of vehicular movement by traffic police at these bottlenecks would prevent unnecessary congestion and provide immediate respite to the public. (KDC)
