Addressing a rally organised by Ruhullah in Budgam, Mattoo said he had been fighting for justice for his son for years, but the case had remained pending in court since the killing.
“I am still fighting for justice. I don’t consider Omar Abdullah and his clan as humans. I see a ray of hope in Aga Ruhullah,” Mattoo said.
Tufail Mattoo, a teenager, was killed after being hit by a tear gas shell fired by security forces in Srinagar on June 11, 2010. His death triggered widespread protests across Kashmir, with the case subsequently becoming one of the most prominent instances of alleged excessive use of force during the 2010 unrest
Taking aim at Omar Abdullah, who was Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir when Tufail was killed, Mattoo alleged that the then government had failed to ensure justice despite having the authority and opportunity to act.
He questioned why he should approach Abdullah for justice, arguing that the latter had failed to address the matter when he was in a position to intervene.
Mattoo also recalled his meeting with Ruhullah, saying the MP had embraced him and demonstrated solidarity with his family.
Praising Ruhullah’s political conduct, Mattoo described him as sincere, honest and dedicated to raising the concerns of ordinary people. FollowPolitics
“He is the voice of the voiceless. He raises the questions of people who have no voice,” he said.
Mattoo further said Ruhullah’s commitment to public issues went beyond ministerial positions and political power, contrasting his approach with that of other political leaders.
