The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Azam, 30, son of Showkat Ali, a resident of Bonzwa in Kishtwar. The injured conductor was identified as Mohammad Irfan, son of Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Kupwara.
According to reports, a truck had broken down on the highway on Saturday night. Azam was reportedly engaged in removing the faulty vehicle when another truck ran over him, leaving him critically injured.
Soon after the incident, locals, police personnel and volunteers of the Civil Quick Response Team (QRT), Ramban, rushed to the spot and shifted both men to District Hospital Ramban.
However, doctors declared Azam brought dead, while Irfan was injured in the incident.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident.
