Srinagar, Oct 16, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered an in-depth inquiry into alleged misconduct by senior IAS officer Kumar Rajeev Ranjan following a reported confrontation with a woman JKAS officer, Beenish Wani, during an official meeting.

According to Government Order No. 1654-JK(GAD) of 2026, issued by the General Administration Department on October 16, a colpy of which is in the possession of news agency Kashmir Dot Com, Mandeep Kaur, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Housing and Urban Development Department, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer to examine the matter.

The order states that the inquiry concerns alleged misconduct by Ranjan, IAS (AGMUT: 2010), Administrative Secretary, Labour and Employment Department, with Beenish Wani, JKAS, Assistant Director, Employment, Ganderbal, as reported in print and electronic media.

The Inquiry Officer has been directed to submit her report within 15 days from the date of issuance of the order.

The government has also appointed Amit Vermani, JKAS, Additional Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, as the Presenting Officer in the matter.

The development comes amid controversy over an alleged heated exchange between Ranjan and Wani during a Mission YUVA review meeting held in Srinagar on October 14. The reported incident triggered reactions within the administrative fraternity, with the JKAS Association’s interim body calling for a one-day pen-down strike in protest against the alleged humiliation of the woman officer.

The government order marks the initiation of a formal inquiry into the matter. (KDC)
