Srinagar, Oct 5 (KDC): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has formally prorogued the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly with effect from October 1, bringing the recently concluded autumn session of the House to an official close.

The order was issued under Section 18(2)(a) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which empowers the Lieutenant Governor to prorogue or dissolve the Legislative Assembly.

According to a bulletin issued by the J&K Legislative Assembly Secretariat on October 5, the Lieutenant Governor’s order dated October 1 has been circulated for general information.

The prorogation follows the conclusion of the Assembly’s autumn session, which was adjourned sine die by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on September 30 after the House completed its scheduled business.

The 10-day session witnessed debates and discussions on several major political, administrative and public-interest issues, including a resolution seeking restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Section 18 of the J&K Reorganisation Act provides the Lieutenant Governor with the power to prorogue the House from time to time or dissolve the Legislative Assembly in accordance with law.
