Jammu, Oct. 2: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh is scheduled to visit Jammu on October 3 to participate in organisational meetings and review the political and organisational situation in Jammu and Kashmir, according to party sources.
Santosh is likely to be accompanied by BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh, while the party’s newly appointed J&K co-in-charge Reena Kashyap is also scheduled to participate in the meetings. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh is expected to join the deliberations on October 3.
According to party sources, a joint meeting of BJP office-bearers and MLAs will be held at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar at 11 am. The meeting is expected to review organisational activities, including the ongoing month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, and discuss measures to strengthen the party’s grassroots outreach across the Union Territory.
The leaders are also expected to deliberate on the prevailing political situation in J&K and the BJP’s role as the main opposition party in the Legislative Assembly.
The recent Assembly resolution seeking restoration of statehood, which contains references to earlier resolutions on autonomy and special status, is also likely to figure in the discussions. The BJP has publicly opposed references to restoration of the pre-2019 constitutional arrangement while distinguishing that position from its stated support for restoration of statehood.
The office-bearers’ meeting will be followed by a Core Committee meeting in the evening, which is expected to be attended by senior BJP leaders, including J&K BJP president Sat Sharma, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul and other members of the party’s Core Committee.
The meeting is expected to focus on organisational feedback, the prevailing political situation and the party’s future organisational roadmap in Jammu and Kashmir.
