The BJP MLAs gathered in the well and raised slogans targeting the Omar Abdullah-led government, disrupting the proceedings shortly after the session commenced.
The opposition legislators continued their protest despite interventions from the Chair, leading to an uproar in the House. The Speaker subsequently adjourned the proceedings amid the continued sloganeering and protests.
The BJP has been preparing to raise several issues during the Autumn Session, including employment, outsourcing, regularisation of daily-wage workers, power tariffs and issues of NHM employees.
The protest on the opening day came as the BJP sought to press its demands inside the House, with its legislators earlier displaying placards over issues concerning NHM employees, electricity tariffs and regularisation of daily wagers.
The Autumn Session is scheduled from September 21 to 30, with seven sittings spread over the 10-day period. The Opposition, including the BJP and PDP, has indicated that it will raise a range of issues concerning governance, employment, reservation and public services. (KDC)
