Srinagar, September 1, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two police officers in connection with a bribery case involving an amount of Rs 15,000 in Srinagar.
Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that, the Bureau received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, investigating officer of FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
The complaint alleged that Karanjeet Singh made the demand through his accomplice, Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat, posted at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar.
Following receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification, which prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification.
Accordingly, the Bureau registered FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station ACB Srinagar and took up the investigation.
During the investigation, an ACB trap team was constituted. The team caught Ravi Jee Bhat red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 from the complainant on behalf of the investigating officer, PSI Karanjeet Singh.
The bribe amount was recovered from Bhat’s possession in the presence of independent witnesses. He was subsequently taken into custody in accordance with law.
The ACB said PSI Karanjeet Singh, identified as the alleged co-conspirator, was subsequently arrested by the Bureau.
Further investigation into the case is in progress. (KDC)
