Srinagar, July 22 (KDC): Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained over 1,200 suspects across the Kashmir Valley as part of an intensified counter-terrorism crackdown launched in the aftermath of the deadly terrorist attack in Anantnag that claimed the life of a police head constable.
Official sources told Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that the detentions were made during coordinated intelligence-based operations carried out across multiple districts, including Anantnag, Shopian, Ganderbal, Sopore, Pulwama, and several other parts of the Valley. The detained individuals are undergoing sustained questioning and verification to identify possible terror links and dismantle support networks.
The crackdown has been accompanied by hundreds of raids and search operations at suspected terrorist hideouts and residences of suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) based on intelligence inputs. Officials said the operations are continuing and more searches are likely in the coming days.
Security has been significantly strengthened across the Valley, with additional deployments at vulnerable locations, intensified vehicle checking, reinforced nakas, area domination patrols and heightened surveillance to prevent any attempt to disturb peace and public order.
The Valley-wide operation was launched following Wednesday’s terror attack in Anantnag, where Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi of the 3rd Battalion of the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) attached with Anantnag police was killed after a terrorist opened fire on him near Lal Chowk.
Officials said the ongoing operations are aimed at identifying terrorist associates, dismantling logistical and financial support networks, and preventing any further terrorist activity. They added that further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and questioning of the detained suspects.
Senior police officers said the crackdown would continue across the Valley and that security forces remain committed to bringing those responsible for the Anantnag attack and their support network to justice.
intensified operations also come amid heightened security for the Shri Amarnath Yatra, which has remained suspended since July 19 due to inclement weather. Security has been further reinforced along the Yatra route and in adjoining districts following the Anantnag terror attack.
