Srinagar, June 20, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday placed Dr. Syed Maqbool Ahmad Shah, Associate Professor of Cardiology presently deputed to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, under suspension with immediate effect pending an inquiry into his conduct.
According to Government Order No. 504-JK (HME) of 2026 dated June 20, Dr. Shah has been suspended under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956.
The order, issued by Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Health and Medical Education Department, M. Raju (IAS), stated that during the period of suspension, Dr. Shah shall remain attached to the office of Government Medical College, Jammu.
The suspension comes a day after an explosive report by Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) revealed that a multi-agency anti-fraud probe had uncovered serious irregularities in advanced cardiac procedures carried out under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY SEHAT scheme at GMC Anantnag. The investigation found that nearly 49 per cent of the audited heart surgeries were allegedly performed on patients who did not medically require such interventions, triggering a wider inquiry into suspected misuse of public health insurance funds and possible medical misconduct.
Officials have now confirmed that Dr. Shah’s suspension is directly linked to the findings of the anti-fraud investigation. Further details are awaited. (KDC)
