Srinagar, Jun 1: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar in connection with an alleged land fraud case involving the fraudulent sale of the same parcel of land to multiple buyers in Khushipora, HMT Srinagar.

According to officials, the chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 03/2024 under Sections 420, 468, 167 and 120-B RPC against three accused persons for their alleged involvement in executing multiple sale transactions of the same piece of land through separate registered sale deeds. The investigation revealed that accused Mehraj-ud-Din Khanday, son of Ghulam Ahmad Khanday, and Shabir Ahmad Khanday, son of Ghulam Ahmad Khanday, both residents of Khushipora Abanshah, Srinagar, allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with a then Patwari, who has since passed away, to carry out the fraudulent transactions.

Crime Branch officials stated that the accused allegedly manipulated and fabricated revenue records to facilitate the sale of the same land parcel to different purchasers, thereby deceiving innocent buyers and obtaining unlawful financial gains.

The probe further established that forged and tampered revenue documents were used to give legitimacy to the transactions and conceal the fraud.

Following the completion of the investigation, sufficient evidence was gathered against the accused persons, after which the chargesheet was submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.

The Economic Offences Wing reiterated its commitment to tackling economic crimes and safeguarding citizens from fraudulent land dealings and financial scams.

The agency has urged the public to exercise caution while purchasing property and to thoroughly verify revenue and ownership records before entering into any transaction.

Crime Branch J&K also appealed to members of the public to report incidents of economic fraud directly to SSP EOW Srinagar, Abdul Waheed Shah. Victims of such frauds can additionally submit complaints through the official email address of the Economic Offences Wing for appropriate action.
