Sopore, Apr 30, KDC: Sopore Police on Thursday said seven alleged repeat drug offenders have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan.

According to a police statement, the action was taken after obtaining detention orders from the competent authority against individuals described as habitual offenders allegedly involved in multiple NDPS cases.

Police identified the detenues as Mushtaq Ahmad Lone of Wagub Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Ganie of Gousia Colony Dangerpora Sopore, Manzoor Ahmad Mochi of Harwan Bomai, Jahangeer Ahmad Tantray of Behrampora Rafiabad, Waseem Raja of Kranshivan Sopore, Bilal Ahmad Lone of Gousia Colony Nadihal Rafiabad and Adil Ahmad Lone of Nadihal Rafiabad.

Police said some of the accused have been lodged in jails at Udhampur, Bhadarwah, Kot Bhalwal Jammu and Amphalla Jammu.

Describing the move as part of an intensified anti-narcotics campaign, police said the detenues had allegedly continued involvement in drug trafficking despite previous legal and preventive action, posing a threat to public health and safety.

Police further said more suspected offenders have been identified and the process for initiating preventive action, including detention under the PIT NDPS Act, is underway.

Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, police appealed to the public to remain vigilant, report drug-related activities and support efforts to make Sopore drug-free. (KDC)
