Srinagar, Apr 18, KDC: National Investigation Agency has arrested Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah in connection with a 1996 case registered in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that Shah was produced before the Patiala House Court in the evening on Friday, which granted the agency three days of transit remand.

Officials said he will be taken to Jammu and Kashmir and produced before a court on Monday for further proceedings.

The case relates to an FIR lodged at Shergarhi Police Station on July 17, 1996. According to investigators, the incident occurred during a funeral procession of slain terrorists, where sloganeering allegedly escalated into violence. Security agencies have claimed that armed terrorists opened fire during the unrest, resulting in injuries to personnel.

The development comes weeks after Shah secured relief in other cases. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court of India on March 12, 2026, in a separate NIA case, followed by bail in a money laundering case on March 28, 2026. (KDC)
