Shopian, Oct 30: Police have arrested 10 persons for allegedly collecting and channeling funds to support militant activities linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot, The Resistance Front (TRF), in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, a police statement said on Friday.
According to the statement, the arrests were made following an investigation into suspected terror financing networks. During the probe, police analysed suspicious online transactions conducted through various payment platforms and traced money trails across multiple layers.
The investigation revealed a wider network of individuals allegedly involved in terror financing and having links with militants and their associates lodged in different jails across the Union Territory, police said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Owais Shafi Naikoo of Saidpora Bala, Shopian; Tajamul Ahmad Shah of Rawalpora, Shopian; Moiz Iqbal and Imdad Yousuf Ganie, both residents of Chitragam Kalan; Saqib Zahoor Wani and Liyaqat Nazir Lone, both from Murran, Pulwama; Aamir Ahmad Ganie of Armolah, Pulwama; Firdous Thokar of Nadigund, Trenz; and Mohd Hanief and Kaju, both residents of Check Haria, Kathua, the statement said.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the accused were allegedly collecting money clandestinely from members of the public and routing it through established financial channels to support the activities of LeT and TRF.
The funds were also allegedly being used to provide logistical assistance, including smartphones, to facilitate militant activities, police said.
A case (FIR No. 231/2026) has been registered at Shopian Police Station under relevant provisions of law, the statement said.
Further investigation is underway to identify additional financial links, establish the involvement of other individuals and determine the wider reach of the network. Police said more arrests were expected.
The operation was conducted as part of coordinated efforts with other security agencies to dismantle networks supporting militancy and disrupt unlawful financial channels across Jammu and Kashmir, the statement added.
