Jammu, Apr 4, KDC: A head constable posted at Police Station Thanamandi in Rajouri district was trapped and arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 for the release of a seized vehicle.
According to an official statement, the ACB registered a case (FIR No. 05/2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against the accused, identified as Mohd. Alyas.
The statement said the case stems from an incident dated March 13, 2026, when the complainant, along with his family, met with an accident near Thanamandi while travelling to Shahdara Sharief. Following the incident, FIR No. 26/2026 was registered at Police Station Thanamandi, and the complainant’s vehicle was seized during the investigation.
“During the course of investigation, the Investigating Officer Mohd. Alyas demanded ₹20,000 as bribe for release of the vehicle and pressured the complainant,” the statement said, adding that the complainant initially paid ₹5,000 under duress.
The accused later continued to allegedly harass and threaten the complainant, demanding the remaining amount, which was eventually negotiated to ₹10,000, the statement added.
Acting on a written complaint, the ACB constituted a trap team and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant. He was arrested on the spot, the statement said.
