New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and MP Jairam Ramesh on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticising his recent visit to Israel amid escalating hostilities involving Israel and Iran.
In a post on X, Ramesh said that just days after Mr. Modi celebrated his Israel visit, Israel and the United States had begun a joint assault on Iran. He claimed that the escalation was anticipated given the military build-up in recent months.
The Congress General Secretary alleged that despite the volatile situation, the Prime Minister chose to publicly declare that India stood with Israel. Ramesh described the move as “moral cowardice” and termed the visit “shameful,” especially in light of the unfolding conflict.
Referring to Israel and the US as Mr. Modi’s “good friends,” Ramesh questioned the timing and diplomatic messaging of the visit.
Meanwhile, tensions in West Asia continue to rise, with global leaders closely watching developments in the region.
