Srinagar, Feb 5, KDC: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Thursday said that statehood for Jammu and Kashmir will be restored only when there is complete confidence that peace and public safety are fully ensured and no innocent lives are lost.
Sharma at the floor of house claimed that the security situation in Kashmir has witnessed a marked improvement in recent years. “Today, there are no new militants emerging in Kashmir. There are no violations and no innocent deaths,” he said.
He attributed the change to the present law-and-order arrangement, stating that with the Ministry of Home Affairs directly overseeing security matters, stability has been restored. “Because law and order is now under the Ministry of Home Affairs, peace has returned and lives are being protected,” the LOP said.
Speaking in the Assembly, Sharma according to news agency Kashmir Dot Com, while referring to ruling party said that statehood would come when the Modi government is fully assured that children like Wamiq Farooq and Tufail Mattoo are never separated from their parents.
“Statehood will be restored when there is full assurance that no pellet guns will be used, no bullets will be fired, and no innocent will be killed,” Sharma said, adding that the priority of the present dispensation is the protection of life and lasting peace. “This is Modi ji’s India, where the safety of every citizen is paramount,” he said.
