Jammu, Dec 15, KDC: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday after a joint search operation was launched in the area, officials said.
They told news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that the gunfight began in the Soan–Martha area of Majalta tehsil when joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces initiated a cordon-and-search operation following specific inputs.
“As the security forces intensified the search, the hiding terrorists opened fire, which was retaliated by the troops, triggering an encounter,” an official said.
Intermittent firing was continuing at the time of filing this report, the official added.
Reinforcements have been rushed to the spot, and all possible escape routes have been sealed off to prevent the terrorists from fleeing the area. Further details are awaited. (KDC)
