Srinagar, Dec 8 (KDC): The Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday ordered a detailed inquiry into the death of a 24-year-old woman following delivery at the Child and Maternity Hospital, Anantnag, an incident that triggered allegations of medical negligence and protests by family members and locals.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the government has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal, Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, as the Inquiry Officer to probe the incident and submit a detailed report along with recommendations within 14 days.

A government order stated that Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Medical Superintendent, Child and Maternity Hospital, Anantnag, will assist the Inquiry Officer during the course of the probe.

“Sanction is hereby accorded to the appointment of Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal, GMC Srinagar, as Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed enquiry into the incident that occurred on 08-12-2025 at the Child and Maternity Hospital, Anantnag, delineating the entire sequence of events,” the order reads.

The government further directed that the inquiry report, along with recommendations, must be submitted within 14 days from the date of issuance of the order.

The incident had sparked public outrage and protests, with the victim’s family alleging medical negligence.
