Pulwama, Dec 02, KDC: Pulwama Police, in coordination with the concerned Magistrate authorities, carried out a focused drive across the district to curb the sale of tobacco products around educational institutions.
Teams inspected several shops located near schools and colleges, checking for violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and the mandatory 100-meter no-tobacco zone. Tobacco items found being sold in restricted areas were seized, and fines were imposed on the spot by the concerned Executive Magistrate.
Shopkeepers were warned against selling tobacco to minors or operating within prohibited limits around educational institutions. They were instructed to ensure strict compliance in the future.
Pulwama Police has affirmed that such inspections will continue as part of its efforts to protect students from harmful exposure and promote a healthier, safer environment around learning spaces. (KDC)
