Srinagar, Nov 28, KDC: Authorities on Friday ordered the immediate closure of the Main Bridge at Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district after experts declared the structure unsafe for vehicular movement.
According to an order issued by the Executive Engineer, Roads & Buildings (R&B) Division Chadoora, a copy of which lies with news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), the bridge has been shut down following an inspection by experts from the Design, Inspection and Quality Control (DIQC) wing. The team found that the bridge had suffered significant damage due to recent floods and recommended urgent repairs.
“In the interest of public safety, the Main Bridge at Chadoora shall remain closed for all types of vehicular traffic with immediate effect,” the order reads.
Officials said commuters have been advised to use alternative routes until the required restoration work is completed. The R&B Division has also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused due to the sudden closure.
The bridge will be reopened for traffic only after necessary repairs are finished and clearance is granted by the competent authorities, the order added.
Copies of the directive have been forwarded to the Chief Engineer PW(R&B) Central Kashmir, District Development Commissioner Budgam, Superintending Engineer R&B Circle Budgam, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chadoora for necessary action. (KDC)
