New Delhi: In a significant update to the Delhi blast case, investigative agencies have recovered the deleted WhatsApp chats of Dr Adeel Ahmad, a key arrest that led them to the Faridabad terror module.
The retrieved chats revealed their desperate financial straits, repeatedly pleading for money. Investigators suspect these funds were used to finance the attack, in which a suicide bomber, Dr Umar Nabi, exploded his i20 car, killing 15 people and injuring over 32.
“All these chats had been deleted from Adeel’s phone. In them, he is persistently demanding money, even asking for an advance on his salary in one instance,” a source said.
The chats are dated September 5, 6, 7, and September 9, 2025. In them, Adeel states he is in urgent need of funds.
Investigative agencies suspect that this same money was used for the blast.
“In fact, Adeel was begging for the money. Out of the 26 lakhs used in the attack, Adeel had provided Rs 8 lakh. During interrogation, the arrested accused, Muzammil, said that they used to call Adeel the treasurer,” the source added.
According to the chats recovered, one of Dr Adeel’s recovered chat messages states, ‘Need salary ASAP, sir. In need of money will be of great help’.
The investigation has also confirmed that Dr Adeel travelled to the national capital just before the alleged events, flying from Srinagar to Delhi on October 11.
To date, the NIA has arrested seven individuals in connection with the blast case.
