New Delhi, Nov 4: The Government of India has constituted the Eighth Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) to review and recommend revisions in pay, allowances, pensions, and other service-related benefits for Central Government employees, defence personnel, and other associated categories.
According to an official notification, the Commission will be chaired by Justice (Retd.) Ranjana Prakash Desai, while Prof. Pulak Ghosh will serve as Part-Time Member and Pankaj Jain as Member-Secretary.
The 8th CPC has been mandated to examine the existing structure of emoluments and recommend revisions that reflect contemporary functional needs, ensure administrative efficiency, and maintain fiscal prudence. It will also review the current framework of allowances, retirement benefits, and performance-linked incentives to enhance accountability and attract skilled professionals to public service.
In addition, the panel will assess pension and gratuity systems for employees covered under both the traditional pension scheme and the National Pension System (NPS).
Headquartered in New Delhi, the Commission has been asked to submit its recommendations within 18 months. It may also issue interim reports if required during the course of its work.
The setting up of the 8th CPC marks the next phase in periodic pay revisions for government employees, following the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission implemented in 2016. (KDC)
