Srinagar, Oct 27 (KDC): In a significant development for north Kashmir, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has assured that the proposal to grant National Highway status to the Srinagar–Bandipora–Gurez Road Corridor is being looked into for necessary action.
In a letter addressed to MLA Bandipora Nizam Ud-Din Bhat, dated September 17, 2025, the Union Minister wrote: “I am in receipt of your letter dated 10.09.2025 regarding request for according National Highway status to Srinagar–Bandipora–Gurez Road Corridor. I am having the matter looked into for action.”
Welcoming the communication, MLA Nizamuddin Bhat expressed gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for his positive and timely response, describing it as a step forward in fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people of Bandipora and Gurez.
Bhat said that the acknowledgment from the Union Ministry reflects the Centre’s keen interest in improving road infrastructure and regional connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.
He added that the proposed upgradation of the Srinagar–Bandipora–Gurez Road into a National Highway would bring immense benefits to the region — boosting trade, tourism, and accessibility to remote border areas.
