Srinagar, Oct 14, KDC: Security forces on Tuesday foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kumkadi area of the Keran sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, killing two terrorists, officials said.
According to police, the encounter broke out after alert troops of the Army, assisted by Jammu and Kashmir Police, detected suspicious movement near the LoC and engaged the infiltrating group. The operation comes amid heightened security along the border in view of increased infiltration attempts ahead of winter.
“Two bodies of terrorists have been observed near the LoC in the Kumkadi area,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Birdi, said, adding that searches are underway to retrieve the bodies.
Officials said the retrieval operation is being carried out cautiously due to the difficult terrain and the possibility of more militants hiding nearby. “A massive cordon and search operation is continuing in the area,” an official added.
