Srinagar, Muharram 10, KDC: In a heartening display of interfaith unity and compassion, the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society (JKCS) organized a Sabeel (Free Refreshment Stall) at Alamgari Bazar, Srinagar, under its flagship campaign “Stronger Together”, to mark the day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S), the revered grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
according to a statement, the initiative, rooted in the Islamic values of sacrifice, justice, and resistance against tyranny, transcended religious boundaries and carried a strong message of humanitarian solidarity and communal harmony.
The Sabeel was supported by a diverse coalition of organizations, including All India Muslim Personal Law Board (J&K Chapter), All Sikh Minority Employees Association, Jammu & Kashmir Handicapped Association, Shahr-e-Khaas Traders & Chambers and JK Thinkers Forum
Members from these groups came together to serve cold beverages and water to mourners, passersby, and community members, in a gesture that not only honored the martyrs of Karbala but also celebrated shared values of compassion and unity across faiths.
Speaking on the occasion, JKCS Chairman Imtiyaz Chashti said: “Karbala reminds us of the eternal battle between truth and falsehood, justice and oppression. The lesson of Imam Hussain (A.S) transcends religion, region, and language — it is a call for humanity to unite against injustice. Our initiative ‘Stronger Together’ embodies this spirit, bringing together Muslims, Sikhs, differently-abled groups, traders, and thinkers to serve and share.”
JKCS reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing peace, compassion, and communal brotherhood, vowing to continue building platforms that strengthen the social fabric of Jammu and Kashmir.
