Srinagar, June 23 (KDC): Srinagar Police on Monday said it has detained two persons and identified a third accused in connection with affixing foreign flags in the Balhama area, in what officials described as an apparent attempt to disturb public peace and provoke sentiments.
In a statement issued late Monday evening, police said the flags of the United States and Israel were placed during night hours in the locality. “Acting on credible inputs, including visual evidence indicating the installation of United States and Israel flags, Srinagar Police launched a prompt investigation using various techniques and ground-level verification,” the statement read.
Police said 6 to 7 suspects were identified and questioned. “Sustained interrogation led to the confirmation of involvement of three individuals,” the statement noted.
The accused have been identified as Mohsin Ali Dar, son of Ali Mohammad of Balhama; Bilal Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Dar Mohalla Balhama; and Amir Ali Dar, son of Manzoor Hussain of Khazir Mohalla Balhama.
“Two of the accused have been detained, while strenuous efforts are underway to apprehend the third,” the statement said.
Police described the act as a “deliberate attempt to provoke public sentiment, disturb communal harmony, and propagate anti-social narratives.” Legal action under relevant provisions of law has been initiated.
“Srinagar Police remains committed to maintaining peace and public order in the district,” the statement added. (KDC)
