Srinagar: The United States has issued an advisory for its citizens, asking them not to travel to Jammu and Kashmir, in wake of the Tuesday terror attack in Pahalgam, that claimed 26 lives.

“Terrorist attacks and violent civil unrest are possible in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Do not travel to this state (with the exception of visits to the eastern Ladakh region and its capital, Leh). Violence happens sporadically in this area and is common along the Line of Control (LOC) between India and Pakistan. It also occurs in tourist spots in the Kashmir Valley: Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam.  The Indian government does not allow foreign tourists to visit certain areas along the LOC,” read the advisory on the official website of US Embassy and Consulates in India, according to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com .

The dastardly attack has already prompted tourists in the Valley to rush back to their states. Several airlines, including SpiceJet and Air India, have issued travel advisories for their passengers.

DGCA has asked airlines to increase the number of flights from Srinagar to facilitate the return of tourists in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. Besides, it has also requested the carriers to consider waiving cancellation and rescheduling fees for Srinagar flight tickets.. (KDC)
