New Delhi/Srinagar, April 5, KDC: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice Arun Palli, a senior judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Born on September 18, 1964, Justice Palli graduated in Commerce before pursuing law from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1988. He was designated a Senior Advocate in December 2011 and was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 28, 2013. He was confirmed as a permanent judge on December 19, 2014, reported news agency Kashmir Dot Com.
Justice Palli belongs to a distinguished legal family. His great-grandfather and grandfather were renowned lawyers in Patiala, while his father, also a Senior Advocate, served as a judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court before retiring in 1998.
Known for his administrative capabilities, Justice Palli currently serves as the Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority. He was also nominated as a Member of the Governing Body of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in October 2023.
The current Chief Justice, Tashi Rabstan, is set to retire on 9 April. (KDC)
