Jammu, Mar 24: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday stated that the proposal to provide 12 free gas cylinders annually to residents is under examination.
In a written response to a question raised by People’s Conference MLA Sajad Gani Lone, Minister in charge of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, informed the Assembly that the government is actively reviewing the matter.
“The issue is under examination, and all efforts are being made to fulfill commitments,” Sharma said.
Lone had sought clarification on whether the government intends to provide 12 free cylinders and, if so, the timeline for implementation.
The proposal was originally part of the National Conference’s 2014 election manifesto, promising free LPG cylinders for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of J&K.
In November last year, Sharma had indicated that a formal announcement regarding the provision of 12 gas cylinders per year, along with an increase in ration allocation, would be made soon.
“Modalities are being finalized, and the official announcement will be made shortly,” he had said.
