SRINAGAR:: A fatal road accident in Ladakh’s Kargil district on Tuesday claimed five lives and left two others critically injured, police said.
The incident occurred in the Shilikchey area when a Scorpio vehicle collided with a tipper truck, causing both vehicles to plunge into a deep gorge.
A senior police official stated that three of the deceased were local residents, while the other two hailed from Uttar Pradesh. Police Station Kargil, along with local volunteers, swiftly initiated a rescue operation, rushing the victims to the hospital. However, five individuals were pronounced dead on arrival, while the remaining two are undergoing treatment in critical condition.
The Kargil Police have registered a case and started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
