At the same time, as snowflakes spun and swept alongside the windows, producing a serene silence throughout the Kashmir Valley, a team at SKIMS Hospital sprang into action. Due to the heavy snow drifts that dusted the region, the staff of the hospital decided not to abandon the work itself and the services.
Prof. M Ashraf Ganie took command of the front and toured from top to bottom the hospital facilities, service, and infrastructure. He met with department heads, reviewed patient care protocols, and ensured that every aspect of the hospital’s operations was functioning smoothly.
In the meantime, the engineering wing of the hospital tirelessly shoveled snow off emergency link roads and parking bays to provide continuous access to patients and staff. The control room remained operational around the clock, providing guidance and assistance to those in need.
Nonetheless, as the winter snowfalls intensified, the healthcare workers demonstrated unprecedented tenacity and dedication. Medical officers and nurses, with the help of paraprofessionals, coordinated well and provided top-notch care to patients through a challenging setting.
For instance, by one patient, a young woman post cesarean section, this study obtained such special appreciation of the hospital’s efforts. The snowstorm would [cause trouble] to my care, but SKIMS staff has been spectacular,” she gushed, her eyes sparkling with thanks. They have been so kind to me and my baby, all through the horrendous weather of this current violent storm.
When finally the rain subsided, the SKIMS hospital staff all let out a sigh of relief together. They had nonetheless fought against the rage of the snowstorm and had declined to admit that it should disrupt their work. In doing so, they had proven themselves to be true heroes, dedicated to providing exceptional care to their patients no matter the circumstances.
