SRINAGAR: The J&K Wildlife Protection Department conducted raids in Srinagar following reports of poaching at Wullar Lake, arresting one suspect, seizing a firearm, and recovering hunting equipment in a decisive action against illegal wildlife activities.
“In the early hours of December 10, the department conducted coordinated raids at multiple locations, aiming to apprehend those involved,” Wildlife Department said in a handout issued to Kashmir Dot com, adding “During the raids, which are the first of their kind, one accused from the Habak area of Srinagar was arrested, and a gun was seized from his house, while various decoys and gear used during illegal hunting were seized during the search operation at the premises of another accused in the Lal Bazar area of Srinagar.”
“This decisive action underscores the Department’s commitment to safeguarding wildlife and addressing illegal activities threatening protected areas.”
As per Deputy Conservator Wetlands, Altaf Hussain, an investigation in the matter has been started, and summons have been issued to other accused to present themselves before the authorities of the Wildlife Department.
“This kind of action shows zero tolerance of the Department against ill-intentioned persons who resort to poaching in various wetlands,” said Altaf Hussain.
“The Department of Wildlife Protection will come down heavily on poachers and will deal with them with an iron fist,” he further added. (KDC)
