Srinagar: Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Bemina organised a one-day seminar on the theme Moral Degradation and Our Responsibilities on Wednesday in the college auditorium.

The seminar was organised to sensitise the youth about the perils of drug menace and other social evils that have shredded the fabric of the society. Reputed speakers from different institutions and organisations spoke on the occasion. After recitation of Holy Quranic verses and Naat-e-Rasool, the principal of the college Prof (Dr) Yasmeen Farooq delivered the formal welcome address and thanked the guest speakers for gracing the occasion.

She said “morality has suffered crusades but those steadfast in their faith have kept the light burning for all of us to benefit from and be inspired by”.

Dr Irfan Ahmad Dar from GDC Charar e Sharif was the first speaker of the day. He provided data that confirm that our world is fraught with moral bankruptcy with women having suffered sexual harassment, bribes being a commonality and drug abuse ripping apart the familial and social order.

Dr Gulzar Ahmad Paul, from Government Women’s College MA Road Srinagar focussed on time management and how we can make fair use of time to invest on good things and make our society free from all vice. Prof Zahoor Ahmad Shah from the host college spoke on the relationship of teachers and students. “Teachers”, he said, “should respect the students and vice-versa”.

Dr Zahoor Ahmad Parray from IIIM Srinagar spoke on the menace of drugs and how it is creating fissures amongst our families and social institution. Prof Mohammad Iqbal presented the vote of thanks and Prof Basharat Ahmad moderated the session.
