Srinagar, Nov 8: Police on Friday said, they arrested three persons whom they claimed to be involved in the grenade attack case that took place near Tourism Reception Centre (TRC) in Srinagar on Sunday, injuring 12 people.
Following the attack, police said it registered an FIR (No. 66/2024) at Kothibagh Police Station under sections 16 of UAPA, 209, 115 BNS, and 3/4 of the Explosive Substances Act.
An investigation followed which led to the identification and the arrest of the three persons involved in the act, police said.
Police identified the three persons as Usama Yaseen Sheikh (28), son of Mohammad Yaseen Sheikh, resident of Ikhrajpora, Srinagar. The second individual has been identified as Umar Fayaz Sheikh (25), son of Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Ikhrajpora, Srinagar. Police identified the third individual as Afnan Mansoor Naik (27), son of Manzoor Ahmad Naik, resident of Watoo, at present in Ikhrajpora, Srinagar.
All the three accused are in the police custody, said an official statement. They were found to be active in the criminal conspiracy, said the statement.
One among them, Usama Sheikh, police said, is already listed as an Over Ground Worker (OGW) and has a history of involvement in terror-related activities, said police.
They said, Sheikh executed the grenade while the other two provided logistical support.
“The investigation further revealed that the accused were acting under the direction of two identified terrorist handlers of Pakistan based proscribed Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist outfit,” said the statement.
However, their identities are being withheld at this stage as the investigation continues. Police anticipates further arrests as the investigation progresses, the statement added.
