SRINAGAR: The State Election Commission has announced a deadline of November 4, 2024, for the publication of the draft Panchayat Electoral Roll.

According to an order issued by the Commission, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Dot Com, the State Election Commission (SEC) of Jammu and Kashmir has initiated an annual revision of the Panchayat Electoral Rolls, setting January 1, 2025, as the qualifying date.

This process is in accordance with the J&K Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, and the accompanying rules.

As part of the revision schedule, six special camps will be held at polling stations across the Union Territory on November 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and December 1, 2024. These camps aim to facilitate the filling of claims and objections regarding additions, deletions, corrections, and transpositions in the electoral rolls. Panchayat Election Booth Officials (PEBOs) and Assembly Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will assist electors during these camps.

The timeline for the revision process includes the publication of the draft electoral roll on November 4, 2024, and the disposal of claims and objections by December 20, 2024. The final electoral roll will be published on January 6, 2025.

District Panchayat Election Officers have been directed to oversee the smooth conduct of these camps and collect details on claims and objections for reporting to the Election Authority. The SEC emphasizes the importance of this revision process to ensure an accurate and inclusive electoral roll for the upcoming elections. (KDC)
